Alfoxton Green Tara (oil and gesso on plywood) was commissioned by Jayaraja in 2024 and completed in 2025 by Hartley Woolf.

What Hartley says about the image:

Jayaraja commissions a new Green Tara every decade to aid his sadhana practice. Aloka has done the last two or three, but wasn't available this time, so the request came to me! I tried not to feel too pressured about filling the shoes of Triratna's most prolific and well-known artist. I have always been inspired by Aloka's work, and Jayaraja was keen for elements of his style to be continued in my painting.

I found the design process with Jayaraja meaningful and humbling. We spoke at length about his relationship with Green Tara, and he shared with me a scrapbook he's kept over the years of images and words that represent her in some way for him. We then went back and forth over a couple of digital designs before he was content for me to start painting.

Once complete, she was inaugurated in the Alfoxton shrine room with a Green Tara puja. It's a huge honour to know she will be seen by so many, and hopefully serve as an inspiration to all who meet her.
